Outdoor Wall Tiles and Outside Floor Tile Ideas

24 designs Outside the house Updated 8 Oct 2026

Outdoor wall tiles keep side walls, boundary walls and courtyards clean and protected from monsoon rain, harsh sun and dust. Outside, a tile must absorb very little water, hold its colour in strong sun and stay firm through years of heating and cooling.

This page covers outside wall tiles for side and back walls, exterior cladding, boundary and compound walls, garden and courtyard floors, non slip outdoor tiles and balcony walls. Each photo comes with its size, finish and one site tip.

For the main road facing wall, see front wall tiles design, and for open roofs see terrace roof tiles.

Outdoor Wall Tiles Design for Side and Back Walls

Side and back walls take the worst rain because they are rarely shaded by a porch. A simple outside wall tiles design in a mid tone hides streaks and saves repainting every few monsoons.

Fitter's tip: Use white exterior grout and seal it, or dust and moss will darken the joints.

Exterior Wall Cladding Tiles

Cladding means fixing stone or stone look tiles on a wall for texture. Modern exterior stone cladding uses thin strips or panels that are lighter than full stone. Compare looks on granite flooring design.

Natural stone, thick outdoor tiles and stone strips cost more than plain tiles, and fixing high walls needs scaffolding. Use the tile size guide to check thickness.

Fixing and Care Outside

  • Use exterior polymer adhesive with full cover. Hollow tiles crack in summer heat.
  • Leave movement joints every 3 to 4 m on long walls and floors.
  • Seal natural stone before the monsoon.
  • Buy 10 percent extra from one batch for later repairs.
  • Scrub moss with a stiff brush and mild soap. Avoid acid near garden plants.

Tile questions people ask

Which outdoor tiles are best for Indian weather?

Vitrified or porcelain tiles with matt, textured or anti-skid faces work best. They absorb almost no water and hold colour in sun. Natural stone like granite and kota also lasts well.

What are non slip outdoor tiles?

They have a rough, grooved or anti-skid surface that grips when wet. Ask for R11 or higher for porches, pool decks and ramps. Never use glossy tiles on outdoor floors.

Can I use indoor wall tiles outside?

No. Indoor ceramic wall tiles soak up rain, then crack or lose glaze. Always use tiles marked for exterior use.

Is exterior stone cladding better than tiles?

Real stone looks richer and lasts long but is heavier and costs more to fix. Stone look tiles are lighter, cheaper to fit and easier to clean.

How do I stop moss on garden tiles?

Slope the floor so rain drains away, trim plants that block sun and scrub before the monsoon. A clear sealer on stone and terracotta helps.
